The HPOA sends our deepest condolences to the fami The HPOA sends our deepest condolences to the family of Osvaldo Nestor Soto, father of Chief Judge Bertila Soto – Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, and the father-in-law of Miami-Dade Police Department Officer Gabriel “Gabe” Rodriguez. Mr. Soto, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

Osvaldo Soto is part of our HPOA family and our association’s history. He played an instrumental role in founding the HPOA and served as our association’s first attorney. He provided his services pro-bono because he believed in the HPOA and our members.

In the early years of the HPOA, Osvaldo guided us and fought for us. His efforts ensured that Hispanics were fairly represented in the department and in the community they served.

Osvaldo Soto was a pillar of support in our foundation, and he was there when our association needed him most. It is because of men like Osvaldo that the HPOA is as strong as it is today. Rest in peace, dear friend. We will miss you and are forever grateful for all that you gave to our association and community.

Mr. Soto is survived by his loving wife, Bertila Areces Soto; their children, Osvaldo Soto, Jr., Eduardo R. Soto, Rigoberto Soto, The Honorable Bertila “Berdy” Soto; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many other loving relatives.
